Changes to the Minister of Religion Labour Agreement to allow overseas workers to be sponsored under the occupation ‘Religious Assistant’
Changes to the Minister of Religion Labour Agreement (MORLA) settings now allow religious institutions to sponsor overseas workers under the occupation Religious Assistant rather than just Minister of Religion. This new initiative broadens visa sponsorship options in light of lobbying by religious organisations for greater flexibility in seeking foreign staff to fill positions within their respective organisations.
Under the Labour Agreement, applicants will apply under Temporary Visa TSS Subclass 482 Visa and have an option to transition after 3 years to the Permanent Subclass 186ENS visa. Importantly, there is a waiver of the 45 years age limited normally applied to the 186ENS visa to allow people of up to 60 years of age to be granted a Permanent Visa. Labour Market testing won’t be directly required. English standards apply to the 186ENS Stream but none to the TSS482 option where the applicant will live in a cloistered environment.
